Shaping Portsmouth

Shaping Portsmouth are a not-for-profit dedicated to transforming the city of Portsmouth in all things business, community and education. From supporting young people in gaining skills, training and employment, to helping local charities and SMEs flourish, they’re on a mission to make Portsmouth a number one UK city. They do this in part through partnerships and sponsors – and that’s where MindWorks come in.

Becoming Associate Partners of Shaping Portsmouth, we have been delighted to support newly-appointed CEO, Dave Humphries and the team, to bring the brand to life and get the most out of their marketing – completely pro bono.

Their two main objectives:

To understand how their brand can be truly cohesive across all of their platforms
To develop a succinct and impactful way of describing who they are and what they do

We facilitated a half-day, interactive brand strategy session at our offices in Emsworth. This included discussions and insights around key elements such as brand values, vision, and essence to create a bespoke brand wheel as well as looking deeper into their day-to-day marketing like social media platforms, CRM, events, collateral and crucially their audiences. We also supported SP with developing a new, snappy elevator pitch that can be rolled out whenever needed and tailored to their audience.

At our follow-up session a few weeks later, the team let us know how much they enjoyed the first session and how important it was in helping them understand branding as a whole. They’d been diligently working on their ‘homework’ and more, implementing new elements like style guidelines for consistency, defining their core values, hosting discussions with their Board around brand direction and cementing their strapline – Transforming Portsmouth Together.

Since our brand sessions, we are also in touch with members of the team individually to set up mentoring and public speaking training and we are confident that our partnership will strengthen over time.
